Trainee Solicitor Q&A with Amelia Calton

News Posted: April 10, 2024

Ever wondered what it’s like to work as a Trainee Solicitor?

We’re giving you some insight with our Trainee Solicitor Q&A Series, where we sit down with our trainees to find out more about the role, and what it’s like to work at Hatchers.

Our first Q&A session features Amelia Calton, who currently sits as a Trainee Solicitor within both our Dispute Resolution and Employment teams. Take a look below for some insight into her role at the firm!

1. When did you begin your Training Contract with Hatchers?

I started my training contract in April 2023 in the Dispute Resolution Team. I had previously worked in the team as a Paralegal.

I started a dual seat in both the Dispute Resolution and Employment teams in early September.

2. What are your main responsibilities as a Trainee Solicitor?

I manage my own case load and assist more senior fee earners with elements of their cases.

I also attend court, where I provide advice to clients and assistance to barristers.

3. How does the firm help you develop your skillset?

To enhance my knowledge and understanding, I attend regular webinars and training sessions.

I also attend networking events, which are excellent opportunities for me to build commercial relationships.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at Hatchers?

One of my favourite aspects about working at Hatchers is the approachability of all members of staff across all levels of seniority.

As a Trainee Solicitor, I also think it’s really important that I receive training and support, and at Hatchers I’m given ample opportunity to develop as both a person and a trainee.

I also really enjoy the social events that take place throughout the year, like the all-staff lunches and charity initiatives.

That wraps up our Q&A with Amelia! We’ll be holding Q&As with our other trainees, too. For more information about careers at Hatchers, click here: https://hatchers.co.uk/careers/
