Trainee Solicitor Q&A with Rebecca Carter

News Posted: July 10, 2024

Ever wondered what it’s like to work as a Trainee Solicitor?

We’re giving you some insight with our Trainee Solicitor Q&A Series, where we sit down with our trainees to find out more about the role and what life is like at Hatchers.

In our latest instalment, we’re catching up with Rebecca Carter, who is currently taking a split seat between our Wills and Probate and Family teams. Take a look at our Q&A session below!

1. When did you begin your Training Contract with Hatchers?

I started my training contract in March 2023 in the Employment Team after previously working in the Dispute Resolution Team as a Legal Secretary, and thereafter as a Paralegal.

I have also completed seats in the Wills & Probate and Residential Property teams, and I am currently undertaking my final seat split between the Wills & Probate and Family teams.

2. What are your main responsibilities as a Trainee Solicitor?

During my training, I work closely with fee earners and assist with the progression of their matters. I conduct legal research and also draft letters and forms.

In addition, I attend client meetings and draft attendance notes, whilst also attending local events on behalf of the firm.

3. How does the firm help you develop your skillset?

I have been provided with the opportunity to choose my training seats based on my areas of interest. I am given the time to read up on particular areas of interest/recent updates to feedback to my team.

I am also given ample feedback on my work and meet with my supervisor monthly to discuss my progress and to set goals for the remainder of my training seat.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at Hatchers?

One of my favourite aspects of working at Hatchers is that there is always something going on! The firm holds regular charity lunches and bake sales, and will often be sponsoring a local event.

We also hold All-Staff Days once a month, which allow me to catch up with colleagues that I may not have recently seen. I really enjoy the sense of community at the firm.

That wraps up our Q&A with Rebecca. We’ll be holding Q&As with our other trainees, too – you can also check out part 1 of our series here.
